Picchio is a independent barn located on a modern farming estate close to Lake Bolsena and not far from the picturesque hill town of Orvieto. The area is known for its natural beauty and archeological sites as it was popular in the eras of the Etruscans and the Romans.
The estate includes three other apartments, and all of them were restored under the direct supervision of the owner, a well- known architect. Care was taken to preserve the original architectural style of the buildings, and this is evident in the handmade terracotta used in the floors, the wood beam ceilings and the use of brick and stone. The combination of the typical materials of the area with top quality finishing materials, wrought iron and tiles, have helped to create a rustic, warm atmosphere that is also elegant.
All of the apartments on the estate share the beautiful swimming pool (18 x 36 feet), which is protected by a semicircle of oak trees. There is also a shared wood-burning oven available for making pizza and bread, and a barbeque. The grounds include grass terraces and lawn areas, which work well for children
Picchio is located just behind the swimming pool, and is on lower ground than the pool, which protects it from chilly weather during the cooler seasons, and also provides for more privacy. A beautiful furnished portico runs along the front side of the barn, bordering on a lawn that faces the countryside with an uninterrupted view of natural scenery.
The private entrance into the barn leads into an open plan living room/dining room. The room is divided into two parts by a raised stone fireplace that is open on both sides. The living room has a panoramic glass door that opens onto the portico. The kitchen area has an oven, gas range, refrigerator with freezer, and dishwasher; it is located along one wall of the dining room. There is a hallway from the dining room that leads to the double bedroom with its private ensuite bathroom, the twin bedroom, and the second bathroom which houses a washing machine. Both bathrooms have shower stalls. The furnishings are of a high standard, with an abundant use of wood and comfortable sofas interspersed with original antique pieces.
Maid service is available for two hours a week at an additional cost, and must be taken.. Picchio has a satellite TV, baby cot, high chair, and cell phones can be provided for guest use. A cook and babysitting services are also available at an additional cost if requested at least two months in advance.
Piccho has its own separate access and parking space. The other apartments on the property hold 8, 6/8, and 2 people. |
