Casa San Lorenzo is a charming and very comfortable farmhouse located in Monticchiello, one of the most unique villages of Tuscany not far from Montepulciano and Pienza. Monticchiello is a tiny jewel, still surrounded by its original walls and watchtower built in the Middle Ages when the village was an important stronghold. The village is an incredibly charming place to wander, and this property offers a delightful opportunity for anyone wishing an in-town experience living next to Italian families.
The farmhouse is nestled close to one of the ancient town walls, and has lovely views over the countryside from the bedrooms. It has a covered loggia running the length of the farmhouse in the front facing a small garden with tall shade trees. This is an ideal place for dining “al fresco” and enjoying the typical scene. There is a barbeque and pizza/bread oven, and a parking area for four cars.
On the first floor, there is an interesting entrance hall with four arches that leads to the living room and the dining room. The living room is very large, and has comfortable furniture that invites a group to stay there together to relax and talk. The dining table seats up to ten people. The kitchen has a marble top table in the center and is very well equipped, as the owner is in the food industry.
Also on the first floor is a double bedroom that is equipped for a handicapped person. The other three bedrooms are on the second floor. Two of them are double bedrooms, and one can be either a twin or a double bedroom. All the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. There is a terrace off the upstairs hallway that gives a view of the nearby village walls and is furnished with outdoor seating.
Casa San Lorenzo does not have a telephone, but there is an Internet Point in the village for guests who wish to access their emails. Monticchiello is an excellent base for touring the hill towns of Southern Tuscany and parts of Umbria. For wine lovers, the town of Montalcino, the home of the Brunello wine, is less than half an hour away. Lovely parts of Umbria are in easy reach for a day trip, and there is good public transportation to Rome in the area.
The English-speaking owner lives elsewhere in the village and will be very helpful to guests about places to visit in the area. The owner can arrange for special cooking lessons and wine tastings for an extra charge. Other amenities at Casa San Lorenzo include bathrobes and slippers for guests, hairdryers, fans, plasma TV (Italian channels) in every bedroom and the living room, washing machine and a CD player. With independent heating, the property can be rented throughout the year.
